For recruiters
You've placed the right person. The company hired them. And then, six months later, it falls apart. Not because of talent, but because there was no structure there to guide them. FirstRoot is the infrastructure that changes that outcome.
What you already know
The designers you place are capable. The gap isn't talent, it's the lack of structure they walk into. Stretched managers with no bandwidth for mentorship. No individual development plan. No one who owns their growth. Early-career designers placed into those conditions don't fail because they can't do the work. They fail because no one has the time to build the environment for them to succeed.
When that happens, you absorb the cost. A replacement search. A strained client relationship. A harder conversation next time you call.
FirstRoot exists in the layer between placement and growth. Giving your early-career placements the structured support that makes the difference between a long-term hire and one that flames out.
The business case
An early-career designer who succeeds in their first role generates 2 to 3 additional search engagements per year from the same client, without competing with your senior search work. A client who see someone you placed grow into a long term hire is the client who calls you first when the next role opens.
FirstRoot doesn't change what you do. It changes the odds that they'll come back to you when they see a placement that sticks.
How it works for recruiters
When you place an early-career designer at a company that partners with FirstRoot, that designer enters a six-month embedded development program that includes twice-monthly 1:1s with a Career Advisor, monthly manager alignment calls, and structured async feedback that keeps your placement's growth on track. Leading to a long-term tenure for that designer.
You don't manage the program. You don't coordinate the relationship. You make the referral and we handle the rest.
FirstRoot pays a 50% referral fee at program activation for engagements referred through recruiter relationships. The structure is straightforward, and it's designed to reward the relationships that bring good placements into the program.
AN EXPERIENCED DESIGN LEADERSHIP PARTNER
FirstRoot was founded by a product design leader with nearly 28 years of experience across agency, in-house, and startup environments, including super-senior IC roles, executive design leadership, and co-founding an independent design and development agency. Most recently, that meant building a design org and leading a product design and UX research team at a Series D, growth stage insurtech.
This isn't coaching in the abstract. It's structured guidance from someone who knows what good product design judgment looks like, what collaboration with engineers and product managers actually demands, and where early-career designers most commonly get stuck because they've been in those rooms.
For the founding partner cohort, the FirstRoot founder is the Career Advisor. That means early-career designers in the pilot work directly with the person driving the program, with the full benefit of that experience behind every session. Not a mentor masquerading as a design leader, not a detached advisor with a desk of 10 other designers. The founder's personal attention to your team member's growth for the full six months.
28 years of design leadership embedded directly into the placement team's workflow.
The program
Each designer works directly with a FirstRoot Career Advisor throughout the six-month engagement. Structured sessions built around real work, active goals, and the development areas where early-career designers most commonly stall.
The Career Advisor connects with the designer's manager once a month, keeping development goals grounded in the actual work environment and giving the employer visibility into progress. This is what keeps the program from operating in a vacuum.
Managers contribute brief structured check-ins twice monthly, prompted, low-friction, and designed to keep the development loop closed without adding to an already stretched schedule.
